Students Supervision

She links her research to education with new courses Cloud computing and Distributed Systems and has mentored over 820 graduate and undergraduate students in the School of Informatics and Computing. She has been an advisor to 8 Ph.D. students, two of whom graduated, and served on the research committee of 28 Ph.D. students. She supervised 48 Ph.D. and Master’s students for independent study course. She provided over 80 recommendation or reference letters for student applications of advanced study or career. She is committed to involving students from under-represented communities and in work with Minority Serving Institutions where she has hosted 27 HBCU STEM students in the SALSA laboratory. In addition, she supervised 6 IU undergraduate students for research. She organized the weeklong NCSA Big Data for Science workshop 2010, which was offered to over 300 graduate students from 10 universities across the nation. She received a Google Award to develop a new online course on Cloud Computing that combines Google’s course builder techniques with Cloud platforms as part of the Data Science program at Indiana University.
